Three Simple Steps To Better Habits In The New Year

Updated: Mar 31

It's that time. The holidays are over and everyone is shouting "new year, new you!" Gyms are seeing an increase in membership, meal plans are being ordered, and the monthly wine club sign-ups have taken a momentary hit. I'm a little different - I believe you are loved just as you are and should work towards a new year with better habits!

As with anything worth attaining, you will need to be spend some time making a list of better habits that you can actually accomplish throughout the year. Start small, and take small steps to reach your goals. The 21/90 rule states it takes 21 days to form a habit and 90 days for it to become part of your daily regimen.

1)Start by making specific goals that are attainable

Instead of saying, I'm going to drink more water, make a goal that is specific. For example: I'm going to carry this water bottle with me, and I want to drink at least three bottles of water a day.

2) Avoid triggers

For example, if you are trying to drink those three bottles of water a day, and you walk by the soda machine at lunch, take a different route to your destination.

3) Measure progress

Record your progress on your phone, where you can easily access the results for a motivation boost. Set an alarm on your phone every few hours to refill your water bottle to help you attain your goal!
